Rossendale Food Group

In December 2016 we were approached by Positive Start Food Group in Rawtenstall to provide transport and volunteer drivers to collect food that the food industry have destined for waste. The food gets distributed to charities and community groups and they in turn redistribute it to more vulnerable people in society. The food is fresh, good quality and in date surplus. The difference with Food Groups and Food Banks in Rossendale is that many food banks only permit a number of uses per year and they have strict eligibility.

Rawtenstall and Accrington Food Groups allow any person or family on low incomes or those vulnerable in the community to use them as many times as they like. The food is not sold but the Food Groups will ask for a nominal donation to cover their overheads and for some who are unable to make donation due to their hardships then they should approach one of the volunteers and they will be able can get some food on the day. The Food Groups are all staffed by volunteers.

Both Positive Start Food Group and ACCROSS Food Group are able to provide a food parcel for veterans in certain circumstances, to get more information and how a veteran can get one then you need to contact the VIC office on 01706 833180 or email info@vic.org.uk

Our last regular food run was in December 2018 but we will continue on an occasional basis when existing transport is unavailable.

During the 2020 Covid 19 lockdown we again supported Positive Start with the deliveries of food bags to the vulnerable and those self isolating in Haslingden and Helmshore.
